Thad tries to fake me out

I had to share this...

Thad is getting to be so funny! He is 18 months now and just continues to make me laugh.

I had him in the kitchen drinking his water out of his big boy cup, when he decided to pull a 'what happens when I turn the cup upside down?' move. Being that he made the mess, he can clean it up as well. So I handed him the towel and he began to wipe the floor. I stepped away for a moment and returned to him sitting there where I left him, trying to get into the cupboard under the sink with the recycling. The second he noticed I was there watching him he began to act as if he were wiping the floor the whole time I was gone! Isn't that just too cute?

Well, I just wanted to share how cute that was. He is really starting to have some kind of personality to him, that's for sure!

Thad went pee pee on the pottey!!!...and got a second haircut

It happend on the 4th of July...

My little man makes me proud everyday!! On the 4th, he really made me proud! We were all out at the 6th annual 4th of July party on the lake at Grandma and Grandpa's house where everyone was having a great time in the sun and water. Thad was playing in the kiddy pool having so much fun, when suddenly, he stopped and looked very excited. He told me he had to potty!! I figured he knew what he was talking about because earlier he was in the kitchen and told me he had to potty right before he tinkled all over the floor (apparently the built in diaper in the swim shorts is not really a "diaper"). So I rushed him up to the bathroom where I pulled down his swim shorts just in time to get him on the potty! He did tell me he was "all done" before he was finished, but it was so cute!! He is sooo ready to potty train! Glad I got all those pull ups!

Our little man also got his second haircut last weekend. I had been trying to take him somewhere to get it done, but everytime he would throw a fit; not like the first time. So finally we decided to do it at home because it has been so hot. David just used the clippers and cut away! He looks so cute! I did mess up the sides though...we wanted it off of his ears so I cut streight across with the scissors and now it looks a little funny. He's still cute though.

This little guys is growing up so fast. I just love the time I have with him! I am having so much fun being part time! It is giving me so much time to get out and be with Thad. Also I am able to make our home so nice. I can't be a stay at home, it would just not be for me, but part time is working out great! I'm lovin' it!!

Thad is growing so fast. It is funny to think that someday his little feet will be bigger than mine! Mine are only a size 6, but David on the other hand has size 12 or 13! I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Going Part-time

I am so excited to let everyone know that I will be going part time at work starting here in just a couple of weeks!

David and I have been talking about this for some time now, and finally as the circumstances have it, I actually HAVE to.

David's mom, Kathy will not be able to take Thad in the afternoon for the summer. So, I will be getting off earlier and picking him up myself. This will be nice to have shorter days and the great part is...I even get to keep my benefits working part time! My office manager has really worked with me and is so supportive. I have gotten to choose my days I work and this fall I will be working only three days a week. This may be the opportunity I need to get back into school and finally start working in Labor and Delivery at a hospital or perhaps even alongside a midwife.

I will keep everyone posted as the days unfold and things fall into place.

A wonderful Mother's Day

Mother's Day was so amazing this year! It started with beautiful tulips (as David knows, those and lillys are my favorite) and my favorite drink from Starbucks: a vanilla latte with whip cream! I am so excited to "use my gift"...two, one hour massages! And, the best part is, I don't even have to leave the comfort of my own home. The massage therapist is coming to our house to give me my massages. David said he will take Thad to the park or something and let me have my time to relax.

I had a great day all day. David did all the diaper changes and made me the best breakfast ever! Yum!! We went on a fun boat ride around Mercer Island with David's parents and his sister Katy. Thad was all dressed up in his super cute sailboat outfit! We stopped at Coulon Beach Park and got lunch at Ivars too. It was so good. I love the cowder there. I got a bread bowl and shared some fries and fish with Thad. I made an exception on fried food for the occasion. It was too cute when Thad and Grama took a nap in the cabin of the boat. David ended up laying down with Thad when we got back so that Grama could go in. Thad woke up so happy. He's such a good boy!

Later in the evening I wanted mexican food, so David went and picked up some yummy fajitas for me because Thad was asleep and we couldn't go out anywhere without a sitter. We enjoyed our food with a couple of cold beers and relaxed for the night. It was nice.

I didn't have to work the next day- I just happen to get a three day weekend on Mother's Day weekend, ..nice! So, Thad and I hung out at home for the morning. He was so good. He let me do my yoga, then my arobics from TV. Later we went shopping and then to the park for about two hours until it was time to get back for dinner. After dinner David had to go do some work on a project for a customer, so he went to do that and Thad and I went for a run. When we got back we got in the shower (my big boy loves the shower) and got ready for bed just in time to play for a while and hang out with Daddy. It was a great weekend!

Spring, ...Break?

Well, they call it spring break, but I don't know why. It does not feel like a break to me. I feel like all I did was run the whole time.
Thad's babysitter, Terri, has a daughter that is seven, who was on spring break. So, I took off some time from work (vacation) for the week. I thought it would be great for me to have a chance to spend some time with Thad and go visit some people we haven't seen in a while.

We did have some good times. I spent all day Friday with our friend Marjory and her little boy Zoltan, who is Thad's age. We had such a great time! We had lunch and went to the park. It was so fun! I loved getting the boys together.




On Saturday we headed up to Whiby Island, to Oak Harbor. I have a good friend, Phelana, up there I had not seen in almost 10 years! Her daughter, Shannon is my second cousin, and she has another little girl that just turned one. We went up for her first birthday party.



Today is Sunday and Thad is sleeping now. When he wakes up we will go shop a little for a while so that David can do some things around here. He is going to finish some painting, caulk the shower, and install a new light fixture in Thad's room. We have much more on the list, but I don't want to push it for one days work. I really want to just relax tonight. I do not feel rested at all, and I have to go back to work tomorrow.....NnnnOooooo!! Maybe a nice dinner and a cold beer. Later, a movie and early to bed. Sounds good to me.

I guess it WAS good, I would not have been happy if I had done nothing and just wasted the time off.... the grass is always greener, right?

Thad's first haircut

We finally got Thad his firsthair cut!!

What a sweet sweet boy he is. He had a great time and was so good. The lady that cut his hair was Michelle at Haircuts for Kids in the U-district. She was super cool and knew just how to keep him occupied and happy. I was very impressed! I love how cute his cut turned out too! My handsome boy!!

Don't make fun of the pics that show him holding the pink phone guys!! It made the best noise. ;) ...he's very masculin.

Shots!!!

Well, I finally broke down and gave Thad his first flu shot a couple of weeks ago. I have to give him his second shot (because this is his first time having this vaccination) about the same time he needs his 15 month well baby shots. David was pretty upset that he had to hold him while I gave him the shot, but he was okay with it after because he realized that it was better to do them at home. Thad didn't even cry. He got mad that he was held down for a minute, but just got up and started to play with his toys. Thad is such a good boy! I am always so proud of him.



These are Thad's 15 month shots...after the terrible experiance we had during his one year shots, I give them to him myself now at work, it's working out great.

My poor baby!!

So Thad had quite a rough time the last couple of weeks... To begin with, Wednesday morning (the 7th) I took him to the babysitters and he was not well. He felt feverish and he was very needy of our comforting; he just wanted to be held. That evening I picked him up from his grandma's house and when I got him home he threw up all over me and on him.

Luckily I had the day off the next day and I was able to stay home with him. He was sick with flu symptoms all day and that evening I finally decided that he just had to be seen because after only two hours from his last dose of tylenol he had a fever of 103.8! We took him to the children's after hours clinic and were told he had an ear infection. We were given an rx for antibiotics, but we wanted to hold off to see if he could get over it on his own.

The next day things got worse for him... he was so unsteady on his feet that he fell right into the corner of a wall and hit his head! I called his pediatric office frantic- this was MY baby, not a child that I was doing a triage call on at work. I went over all the signs of head injury with the nurse there and we decided that he was okay and did not need to be seen. I put him down for nap for just over an hour and when he woke up he had a huge walnut on his forehead!! I freaked and called his doctor's office and told them I was bringing him in. I could not take any chances with my little boy! When the doctor saw him, it was obvious why he had fallen, he had a ragging infection in both ears. I was told to start the abx right away and to keep him on tylenol and motrin for the pain (ears and head). His head was okay, but it still looks like I beat my child. I am so embarassed taking him places. I put a hat on him, but he pulls it off!

To make matters worse, over the weekend he got the worse diaper rash ever! He has never had diaper rash before either. My poor baby! He would cry and shake when I changed him. It was so sad.



....But, all that has cleared up now. Aside from the hard lump on his forehead, he is doing much, much better now. I am so thankful. He went through so much, but things can always be worse.

Today we went to the park

Today while David changed the oil in his truck and worked on the brakes, Thad and I took a little trip to the beach park down the hill from our home.

We had a great time looking at the ducks and the squirrels and watching all the other people go by. We had lunch at Ivars and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the water.

Thad had his first experience on a swing as well!! I don't know why it took so long. I guess I was afraid of him falling. He did a wonderful job of hanging on though and had a blast!

Thinking about work

I was just thinking about work yesterday, since today is my day off and I have nothing else to do, right? There are days when I think I may just walk out; it wouldn't be hard for me to find a new job. The 10 hour days, the patients that can be such a pain in the a**!, the days when the A.R.N.P. I work with and I just butt heads,... and then there are days like yesterday that make me think, maybe I really do LOVE my job. I don't think this kind of job is for everyone. I guess "everyone" would be in nursing if that were the case.Yesterday a patient came in and gave me the best compliment ever! He remarked how wonderful I looked (he has not seen me since July) and that at first he did not recognize me. I looked great he complimented. -My son was six months old at the time(of the last visit), I had very recently gone back to work after so much time; not working for a year, being on bedrest and gaining a ton of weight to try and keep Thad safe. Okay, I had gotten FAT! He went on to tell me that it was my wonderful personality that tuned him in that it really was me. He said when he had met me before, I sort of stuck with him. He recalled that he had never had a nurse treat him like a person, and not just another patient on the schedule. He told me how my personality sparkled and that when he left the office after his last visit -he felt uplifted by my spirit. I hope he left there yesterday feeling that way again; I know he put me on a cloud. I can feel confident that he was genuine with his compliment- a fourtyish, happily married guy; is probably not out looking to pick up chicks. I get compliments on my energy and personality from many patients actually. I think that is one of the reasons that I love my job. I think I also love my job because of the family I have found in my co-workers too. The A.R.N.P. I work with, Tyler, is wonderful. He is like a friend sometimes. He has great advise and is a very intelligent person! I love all the staff! Our office manager has been someone that I can go to for anything, and I mean that! She has been like a mother, a sister, and a great friend to me. I admire her as a wife, a mother, ...a WOMAN! Everyone at work is always willing to help each other out. Not just at work either. When someone is having a baby, gifts are flying about the place! At holidays everyone is so generous and even with out a reason, everyone there is thinking of everyone else. As I think about weighing the good against the bad, I guess there is so much good in my job, that it sort of washes away all the bad stuff. Well, time to come out of my deep thoughts and get back to my day off of taking care of Thad, errands, laundry, and keeping a lunch date with one of my great friends.I hope everyone is well today, and everyday. I love you all and thanks for taking the time to just read a little about what is going on with me and our little family.

My first blog post

Hello to our friends and family! We finally became high-tech and have set ourselves up with Internet. So, in doing so, I thought it would be a good thing to set up a blog to keep you all posted as to how we are all doing and the latest goings on.For those of you who do not know all, here goes.. David and I have been married a little over two years and now have a beautiful one year old boy named Thaddeaus. We were married in September of 2004 and in the first year of marriage, while I was stationed in the army at Fort Campbell, KY., we were surprised to learn of the upcoming arrival of our little bundle of a handful and joy, baby boy. It was great to be back home to Washington, but stressful to try to get new jobs, a new home and prepare for a new baby. But we made it through without too many scars. On December 20th, 2005 at Madigan Army Hospital on Fort Lewis, Washington, we welcomed Thaddeaus Robert Kaseburg! Weighing in at a whopping 4lbs. 14ozs. and 18ins. long. He was a tiny thing! After my three week stay in the hospital on bed rest with preeclempsia and days in labor, not to mention that last night under the billi lights (we will not soon forget), we were so happy to bring Thad home. Who knew something so small would need so much stuff and give you so much trouble! Despite the nights on end without sleep and the despair I felt when I returned to work, it was a wonderful first year. We could not have done it without the help of our giving family. Grandma Kaseburg (Kathy), spends almost every evening that I work with Thad. We have her to thank for finding us the best babysitter we could ever have dreamed of, Terri, and their (Scott and Kathy Kaseburg) generosity to us in helping with the first year after our return to Washington. Thad could not have any better Grandparents than he has. He is so loved and has been such a blessing. It was quite a relief when we found our condo here in Renton, Wa. We were so excited to finally call a place home. We had a wonderful holiday season and with it celebrated Thad's first birthday. Our original date that was set for the party had to be changed because most of the whole area was without power for a week or so for some. We did reschedule and had a wonderful party with our terrific family and friends. It was great to have those who love Thad so much be there to celebrate him and his first big year of so many firsts.I can't wait to post some pictures for everyone and to give more updates as the days go on. Thanks for sharing in our lives and caring to keep up with us as our family grows and experiences new and exciting things to come.
